Lobby Day
The Illinois Principals Association has decided to postpone its annual Lobby Day in an effort to ramp up the advocacy at the local level.
The IPA has decided to focus on lobbying members of the General Assembly & Congress at the district level. In the past, most Lobby Day attendees did not have adequate opportunity to discuss the major education related issues that are before the General Assembly when members of the GA are in session.
By setting up meetings with elected officials in the district offices, IPA members will have adequate time to sit down and discuss the major education issues before the General Assembly & and how those will impact their schools. Also, IPA members will be able to collaborate and work with a number of principals at the district level to meet with their elected officials together versus individually.
Lobbying tends to be most effective when the elected official you are lobbying knows who you are and more importantly understands how the issue impacts you as their constituent.
As an IPA member you may travel to Springfield multiple times out of the year for different events. The IPA encourages you to take some time and meet with your elected officials at the Capitol when you are in town whether by yourself or in a large group. We would be more than willing to assist you with a Capitol visit.
If any IPA member has further questions or concerns, please contact DeJuan Kea, Governmental Relations/Public Relations Director via telephone at (217) 525-1383 or send an email to govrelations@ilprincipals.org
