Discipline at Work: Practical Strategies for Addressing Behavioral Challenges

Do you find yourself driving to school hoping all the students behave so you can get some work or teaching done? There are many student behaviors that challenge us and leave us feeling angry, puzzled or helpless to accomplish our goals. Most traditional methods of discipline do not seem to work or change the behaviors. Let’s move from traditional methods of discipline to a positive behavior support philosophy. Create an environment of social and emotional security that encourages mutual respect between the adult and the student. Remember: Student’s will do things for adults they like that they will not do for others, they just want to be understood. Develop better relationships with your students, even your more challenging students, to reduce conflict and increase academic achievement.
