“Every Student Succeeds Act” (formerly known as NCLB)
After months of bipartisan negotiations, the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) was reauthorized as the “Every Student Succeeds Act” and signed into law by President Obama on December 10, 2015. The new law will take effect on August 1, 2016.
The following priorities of principals and NASSP were included in the bill:
- Inclusion of the 2009 School Principal Recruitment and Training Act in the final conference report.
- Amendment included to clarify that a “school leader” is a principal within the school building. The definition was included in the final conference report.
- Allows states to reserve up to 3% of their Title II funds for school leader activities.
