Randy Oberembt

Retired Athletic Direcetor

Randy Oberembt’s career in education spans forty-two years, including twenty as a head coach at the high school and college level. He served twenty years as athletic director at Mary Institute and Saint Louis Country Day School (MICDS) and at New Trier Township High School. Oberembt has presented at the local, state and national levels on topics including NCAA recruiting regulations, sport culture, social emotional programming and the value of the athletic experience (the latter with retired Superintendent Robert Prusator, Jr.). He and Prusator have also worked with Illinois high schools, their boards of education and athletic departments in developing athletic programming to ensure a positive experience for all student-athletes. Students and coaches at schools under Oberembt’s supervision as athletic director won one or more team state championships in seventeen different sports. Students at New Trier High School participated in athletic activities at a rate of 2,000 unique participations and nearly 3,000 total seasons per year. Oberembt was inducted into the Illinois Athletic Directors Association (IADA) Hall of Fame in 2019 and named Class 3A-4A State Athletic Director of the Year in 2016. He was inducted into the Knox College Athletic Hall of Fame in 2002. Following retirement from New Trier in 2016, Oberembt served as interim athletic director at Libertyville High School and most recently at Deerfield High School.
