Evaluator Initial Training and Retraining for Principals and Assistant Principals

To be able to evaluate TEACHERS, click here to register for AA #2001.

June 24, 2027, 8:30 a.m. - June 25, 2027, 3:30 p.m.

Who should take this course: AA #4050 is for anyone who will evaluate principals or assistant principals. It is typically taken by superintendents, assistant superintendents, other district administrators, and principals who supervise assistant principals. This one course serves two purposes:

  • Initial training: If you don't yet have the principal evaluator designation on your PEL, this course earns it.
  • Retraining: If you already have the principal evaluator designation, this course meets your retraining requirement.

This course does not qualify you to evaluate teachers. For that, you need AA #2001.

About the training: This two-day academy teaches evaluators how to implement a continuous school leader growth model using the School Leader Evaluation Plan. The plan is based on the School Leader Paradigm, developed by the National School Leader Collaborative, a group of 23 state principal associations from across the country. It is aligned with the Illinois Performance Standards for School Leaders and meets the requirements of 23 Illinois Administrative Code Part 50, Subpart D: Performance Evaluation Plans: Principals and Assistant Principals.

Training participants receive a printed copy of the School Leader

Evaluation Plan, the School Leader Paradigm, and the School Leader Calendar
as we well as a light lunch on both days. To be eligible to attend, each participant must complete ISBE-required pre-work at least 72 hours before the training.

Group Discount for Multiple Participants from the Same

District: Districts who wish to send multiple participants to the same session for a team learning experience are eligible for the following discount: $425 for the first registrant and $375 for each additional participant from the same district. To take advantage of this group discount benefit, you must complete and submit the group registration form.

After you register: Your confirmation email from netforum@ilprincipals.org will include the training location, handouts, and detailed instructions. If you don't see it in your inbox, check your junk or spam folder, or email workshops@ilprincipals.org.

Registration changes must be received via email at workshops@ilprincipals.org. If you do not cancel or transfer your registration at least 10 business days prior to the event and/or are not in attendance, you are responsible for full payment.

If you are unable to attend, the following options are available (provided your request is received at least 10 business days prior to the event):

  1. Transfer your registration to another IPA event (of equal or less value);
  2. Receive credit in the amount of the event eligible for all IPA events and IPA merchandise (see below for details); or
  3. Receive a refund (see below for details).

Information regarding credits and refunds:

  • If refund/credit request is received within 10 business days prior to the event, you are responsible for full payment.
  • Credits for events and merchandise expire each year on June 30.

The IPA reserves the right to cancel or reschedule events at any time. If your event has been canceled or rescheduled, you may request a refund, credit or transfer the registration fee to another IPA event.
