Avelira Rodriguez Gonzalez is an equity-driven educational leader, speaker, and consultant with more than 26 years of experience in K–12 education. Her career spans classroom teaching, school leadership, human resources, and district-level systems, providing her with a broad perspective on creating meaningful and lasting change in schools.
As the first Latina Principal of Elgin High School since its inception in 1869 and one of Illinois’ largest and most diverse high schools, Avelira is committed to building inclusive environments where all students feel valued, supported, and empowered to succeed. Her leadership focuses on strong relationships, high expectations, and systems that promote both academic achievement and student well-being.

Avelira is a sought-after presenter and keynote speaker who has shared her expertise at conferences including the Association of Latino Administrators and Superintendents and the Illinois Principals Association. She developed the leadership framework “Level Up, Try Everything, Give Grace,” encouraging educators to embrace innovation, lead courageously, and center humanity in their work. Her presentations combine storytelling, practical strategies, and reflection to inspire action.

As a consultant, Avelira partners with school districts and organizations to provide professional learning in equity-centered leadership, restorative practices, school culture, and leadership development. She is especially passionate about supporting multilingual learners, strengthening student-support systems, and developing future leaders through mentoring and coaching.

Avelira also serves as an Adjunct Professor at Judson University. Bilingual in English and Spanish, she is recognized for connecting authentically with diverse audiences and advancing educational systems that prioritize access, opportunity, and belonging for all students.
