Kathy Wellman
Kathy Wellman has served as an ELN Content Specialist with the Illinois Principals Association since 2024. Prior to joining IPA, she spent 33 years in higher education as an instructor at Southern Illinois University-Carbondale and Bowling Green State University; for the last 23 years of her career, she served as an instructor and division chair at Lake Land College. While at Lake Land College, she increased enrollment through development of a Peer-to-Peer Program, as well as a Finish What You Started Campaign, to increase retention, persistence, and completion rates. One of her most rewarding projects was coordinating a 3D printing lab that provided free prosthetics to community members. She also served as the College's Co-Chair for HLC Accreditation.
Wellman is passionate about incorporating interactive strategies in curriculum as well as strategies to promote critical thinking. Her primary areas of instruction were business communication, computer applications, and web page design. Since her retirement from Lake Land College, she has enjoyed adjunct teaching at North Central College and substitute teaching for grades K-4.
Throughout her career, Wellman has received numerous awards including Outstanding Faculty Member Award Lake Land College, Illinois Outstanding Collegiate Supervisor Award, Who's Who Among America's Teachers, and the Business Education Excellence Award. Wellman earned degrees from Southern Illinois University-Carbondale and completed post-graduate work at Bowling Green State University.
