Dr. Thomas Mahoney

Retired Superintendent

Tom most recently served as the Superintendent of Oregon Community Unit School District for 14 years. As an educator, Tom has served as a secondary math teacher, coach, building administrator, and Assistant Superintendent. His experiences as a teacher, serving a diverse student population, continue to guide his advocacy for equity and whole child education in his administrative roles. Dr. Mahoney is a sought-after presenter and has recently presented at ASU-GSV International Summit and on behalf of the International Center for Leadership in Education, FranklinCovey, HumanEx, and Houghton Mifflin Harcourt. Additionally, Tom has presented, consulted, and provided professional development at the local, state, and national levels. Under Dr. Mahoney’s leadership, the Oregon Community Unit School District has been recognized by US News and World Report, Newsweek, and The Daily Beast as having one of the country’s top 2000 high schools. Dr. Mahoney has served as a member of the Illinois Association of School Administrators’ Vision 20/20 initiative and served as a committee member in shaping the Illinois Balance Accountability Legislation. Tom also serves in several local roles, including the Lee/Ogle Legislative Accountability Chairman, a member of IASA Governmental Relations and Advocacy Committee, Rotary Board member, Economic Development Board member, and member of the NSCA Foundation Board. Tom and his wife Angela, who serves as a building principal, celebrated their 32nd year of marriage in 2024. They have two daughters, Maise and Delaney.
